October 1, 2009 is the kickoff date for the 2009-2010 NHL season.  Training camps are complete, cuts have been made, dreams have been realized, and in about four and a half hours skates will be laced up.  Veterans like Joe Thornton and Jarome Iginla will start their quest for their first Stanley Cup.  Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Penguins will begin their quest for a second.  John Tavares, Matt Duchene, Viktor Stalberg and Victor Hedman are a handful of players who get to start their NHL careers.

To coincide with this new season, I am kicking off a new hockey blog as well.  Cards on Ice will talk about hockey and hockey cards.  Sometimes separately and sometimes together.  Hot rookies as well as hot cards will be featured, along with breaking packs and boxes of hockey products.

With the start of the 09/10 season, one of the features of this blog that will be updated is a page featuring the young stars who suit up for their first NHL game (or dress as a backup for goalies), and thus become eligible for a rookie card in NHL and NHLPA licensed products.
