Noteworthy Performance: Luke Schenn
In last night’s game against the Ottawa Senators, Leafs sophomore defenseman Luke Schenn recorded the first 2-goal game of his career. Schenn has never been known for his offensive prowess, and if you have spent much time watching him, you could actually say it was a weakness in his game. For a defenseman, he has never been especially comfortable unleashing a bomb from the point, often preferring a wrist shot. That’s OK once in a while, but a boomer is good as well. Schenn’s two goals on the night doubled his season output to 4, a new career high.
Maybe it is just his natural evolution as a player, or perhaps the arrival of Dion Phaneuf has given Schenn someone to emulate, but he certainly looks much more confident at both ends of the ice. He was named the third star of the game last night, as the Leafs brought the Senators winning streak to a halt.
