Jordan Weal Notches 100 Points
Every year, there are several 100-point scorers in the CHL, but Jordan Weal is a bit of an extraordinary case. In the first case, he is the first 17-year old WHLer in 10 years to record that many points. He is also one of a select number of draft eligible players to record 100 points in the season leading up to his draft. This year he has been joined by Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin, both of whom play in the OHL. To put this in a larger scope, Weal is only the 5th CHL player in the last decade to record 100 points in his second season of junior eligibility. The first four? Well, Seguin of course. Then there’s John Tavares, Steven Stamkos and Sam Gagner. Pretty heady company.
Weal does benefit from some solid linemates in Regina, namely Edmonton Oiler’s draft pick Jordan Eberle, but he has produced while Eberle has been away from the Pats, and at competitions with different linemates. Weal has a gold medal while representing Canada at the 2009 Memorial for Ivan Hlinka Tournament, and he played for Team Pacific at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. He also notched a goal and an assist at this year’s pre-draft showcase the CHL Top Prospects Game, while playing for Team Cherry.
I took this photo myself at a Pats game right after the World Junior Tournament, you can check it out on Flickr here (and there’s a bunch of other photos there for you to check out as well).
If you are looking to add some Jordan Weal cards to your collection, he has several in 2009-10 ITG Heroes and Prospects.
